NANCY ANN JOHNSON BEARD

Born August 5, 1934 in Coral Gables

Passed away August 9, 2006, after a heroic bout with pancreatic cancer.

Daughter of the late James Dudley Johnson and Myrtice Culpepper Johnson.

After graduating from Miami Senior High School in 1952, she began 34 year railroad career in Reservations with Illinois Central Railroad, known as the "Mainline of Mid-America" and thus was born her life-long love of trains.

In 1957 joined the Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, which later became CSX Transportation, where she became Manager of their Freight Traffic Customer Service Center.

Later became one of the first female Account Executives for CSX Transportation and received seven Sales Achievement Awards in that capacity.

Was one of the founders of the Women's Transportation Club of Dade County.

Became a member of the National Association of Railway Business Woman in 1952 and served on local, district, and national levels even after her retirement.

Was Board Chairman of Riverside House Ministries and President of the Board of Directors of the Civic Chorale of Greater Miami.

After retiring in 1992, she continued to serve the First United Methodist Church of Coral Gables as Membership Coordinator, Lay Leader, Trustee, and Chairman of the Administrative Board.

Worked many years as part-time assistant for Everett Clay Associates, Florida's oldest Public Relations firm.

Was member of AO Chapter, P.E.O. Sisterhood, the Coral Gables Music Club, and the Fellowship of the United Methodists in Music and Worship Arts.

Loved her church. Her passionate leadership in all aspects enabled her to share and help implement creative, authentic worship experiences. She leaves behind a dignified legacy of stewardship, humility, and service.

Is survived by her son, Xxxxxxx Xxxxxx Xxxxx and granddaughters, Xxxxxx and Xxxxxxxx Xxxxx of West Palm Beach and by her daughter, Xxxxxxx Xxx Xxxxx Xxxxxxx (Xxxx), and grandchildren, Xxxxx and Xxxxxx Xxxxxxx of Miami. Also surviving are sister Xxxxxxx Xxxxxx (Xxxx), two nieces, Xxxx Xxxxxxxx (Xxxxx) and Xxxxx Xxxxxxxxxxx, and nephew Xxxxx Xxxxxx of Hollywood, nine cousins, and many long time friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggested donations to the Music Ministry of the First United Methodist Church of Coral Gables or to the Riverside House Christian Ministries.

Visitation was Friday, August 11, 2006, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Van Orsdel Coral Gables.

Memorial services: Saturday, August 12, 2006, 2 p.m., 1st United Methodist Church of Coral Gables Sanctuary, 536 Coral Way, Coral Gables, FL VAN ORSDEL - CORAL GABLES 4600 SW 8 St (305)446-4412 Family Owned Since 1924.
