80, of Sunset Road, Charlotte, died Dec. 7, 1997, at his residence.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Almond, Raymer & McConnell Funeral Home Chapel, Huntersville, NC, with Rev. Lee Russell and Rev. Steve Bass officiating. Interment will be in Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997, at the funeral home.
Born in Mecklenburg County, Mr. Abernathy was a merchant and farmer, and retired owner and operator of Abernathy Service Station. He was a member of Sunset Road Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons, David Abernathy and wife, Iris, of Davidson, Richard Abernathy and wife, Robyn, and Perry Abernathy and wife, Susan, all of Mooresville, and Roy Abernathy of Davidson; daughters, Mrs. Sandra A. Nelson and husband, Jerry, of Mooresville, Ms. Linda Abernathy of Charlotte, and Mrs. Mary A. Lusk and husband, Roy, of Glenville, NC; brother, James Abernathy of Baltimore, MD; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Helen Abernathy, in 1994.
Memorials be made to Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 1915 Oakdale Rd., Charlotte, NC 28216.
