Charles Henry Hinnant, 94, of Kenly, died Monday, Feb. 1, 2010. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 4 at 11 a.m. in the Kenly Free Will Baptist Church with Rev . Frank Flowers and Rev. Ray Hodge officiating. Burial will follow in the Kenly Cemetery with Masonic Rites.

He was born in Johnston County on Jan. 3, 1916 to the late Henry (Doc) Arthur and Mero Jones Hinnant. He was a mason, charter member of the Kenly Fire Department, town councilman for three terms, active in the Kenly Free Will Baptist Church, serving as Sunday School teacher, choir member, superintendent of Sunday School and a deacon.

Surviving are his wife, Dorothy White Hinnant; a daughter, Dorothy Gayle Dale of Wilmington; two sons, Charles Keenan Hinnant of Kenly; Henry Durand Hinnant of Hampstead; six grandchildren, Randy Hinnant, David Hinnant, Dawn Hollis, Stewart Vann Price, Matthew Dale and Leigh Hinnant Letchworth; eight great-grandchildren and a special caregiver, Ruby Barbour.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, one brother and a great-granddaughter.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Feb. 3 from 7-9 p.m. at Minshew Coley Funeral Home.
