George W. Ruth , son of Fred Lewis Ruth and Mishie Stevens Ruth , was born February 22 ,1922 . George's paternal grandparents were William C. Ruth and Mary Etta Davis Ruth , and his maternal grandparents were William Bennett Stevens and Nancy Thusybelle " Doll " Stevens . George's siblings were Ruby, Betty , John , Jim , Bob , Luna , Dow , Lewis , Hershel , William Ivan (Bill) , and Grover . On April 12 , 1940 George married Ollie Mae Estes . He served in the Navy in World War II . For 28 years he was employed by the Johnson Outboard Motor Company in Waukegan , Illinois . While living in Illinois , George and Mae raised their two children - Brenda and George. After he and his wife retired , they returned to Mississippi . He was a member of the Faith Assembly of God Church . On September 21 , 1993 after a battle with cancer he died in Tupelo , Mississippi at the North Mississippi Medical Center . He was survived by his wife Ollie Mae Estes Ruth ; his son George W. Ruth and his daughter Brenda Joyce Degler ; his grandchildren and great grandchildren ; his brothers : Bobby Ruth , Jim Ruth , Herschel Ruth , and John H. Ruth ; and his sisters Ruby Middleton and Betty Bourland .
