Mrs. Gladys Wynn Snellgrove, a resident of Ozark, Ala., died Friday, March 31, 2006, in Ozark Health and Rehabilitation Center. She was 98.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 3 at Ridgecrest Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Hill officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens. The Deacons of Ridgecrest Baptist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the Church from 12:30 p.m.m Monday until service time at 2 p.m.
Mrs. Snellgrove was born Sept. 5, 1907, in Ariton to the late Reader Laney Wynn and James Alexander Wynn. She worked with Civil Service at Fort Rucker from 1942 until 1955, and with various maintenance contractors until her retirement in 1983 at the age of 75. Mrs. Snellgrove was a charter member and the oldest living member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church, serving as the church clerk for 30 years. She was a member of the Emmie Hunt Sunday School Class and sang with the Golden Age Singers. She was a member of the Kolb Chapter of The Order of The Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron. She and her husband, Lewie Frank, were featured on WTVY News on Valentines Day 2003 honoring their 76 years of marriage.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Snellgrove was preceded in death by her husband of 76 years, Lewie Frank Snellgrove; her son, Don Snellgrove; one sister, six brothers, and her granddaughter, Paige Byrd.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Geraldine and Mixson Byrd of Ozark; one sister, Dura Newton of Grimes; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Laney Wynn of Enterprise, Dink and Wyoline Wynn of Ozark; four grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren also survive.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Ridgecrest Baptist Church Building Fund, 1971 Deese Road, Ozark, AL 36360.
The family would like to thank Dr. Caffey and staff, Ozark Health and Rehabilitation, Wiregrass Hospice and her caregivers.
