Ruby Mae Floyd, wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, great great grandmother and friend to all. Ruby is survived by her sisters Doris McEachern of Liberty Hill, TX, and Mabel Travis of Lake Jackson, TX. Her daughter Pauline Collins, and her son Asa Lee Floyd, both from Liberty Hill. Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Ruby died peacefully in her bed at the Bertram nursing home surrounded by family on September 8th, just 25 days before her 95th birthday. Ruby held this place close to her heart. She worked as a medication aide in this same facility more than 30 years ago. The family would like to give a special thank you to the nurses and aides at the Bertram Nursing home. Not only did they take care of her, but treated her like family.
Ruby was strong in her faith and attended the Church of Christ in Liberty Hill.
Ruby worked for and retired from Liberty Hill ISD where she was close to her grandchildren, and after watching her first grandchildren graduate high school, she decided to peruse, and earned her GED at the age of 68.
Ruby was an avid hunter and fisherwoman instilling a love and respect for the two sports in her children, but especially her grandchildren. During their younger years, she and her husband Asa would take the grand children on trips to Bend, Texas where they would stay for days at a time fishing from the river bank and running trot lines. They also had property near Junction, TX where they taught the grandchildren to hunt. A tradition that has been handed down and is now being taught to the next generation of hunters that she helped inspire.
Ruby was preceded in death by her late husbands John West Sr, Asa Floyd Sr, and partner for the last 20 years, Elroy Foust. Her son John West Jr, her daughter Cindy Hammock, her brother Wiley (Peanut) Leavitt and three of her sisters, Pat Coleman, Vida Nelson, and Christine Harris.
Funeral services will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish funeral home, 1200 S Bagdad Rd, Leander, TX 78641 on September 14, 2023 at 10am. Graveside will be immediately following the services at the Liberty Hill Cemetery, 16101 Hwy 29, Liberty Hill, TX 78642.
