Sarah was born on November 14, 1923 in Portland, Indiana to Archie & Pearl (Ludy) Lykins. She attended Portland High School and has lived in Bluffton since 1948. On September 11, 1948 in Rochester, Sarah and Robert Schaffter were married, and he precedes her in death in March of 1988.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Bluffton and was a member of the Wells County Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered at the Bargain Hut. Family was very important to Sarah and she was always ready to go square dancing and loved traveling with Bob in the R.V. and going camping. She enjoyed sewing and baking.
She is survived by her children: Nancy (Tom) Smiley of Bluffton, Cheryl (Nick) Jaworsky of Bolingbrook, Ill., Linda (Keith) Tregre of Denham Springs, LA, Tim (Judith) Schaffter of Roanoke, IN and Janet (Robert) Nichter of Fort Wayne, along with 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Sarah is preceded in death by her husband and nine brothers and three sisters.
A service to celebrate Sarah’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday (August 12, 2016) at the Thoma/Rich, Lemler Funeral Home in Bluffton. Pastor Steve Bard will officiate. Calling hours will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, prior to the service. Burial will follow at Six Mile Cemetery in Bluffton. Memorials may be made in Sarah’s memory to the First United Methodist Church, American Cancer Society or American Alzheimer’s Association.
