NEWARK - Ray Deal, 81, of Newark, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001, at Batesville.
Born Jan. 26, 1919, he was the son of Alford Baxter and Carrie Merril Deal. He was the owner-operator and auto mechanic of Ray Deal service station. He was a member of the Newark First Baptist Church. He was a World War II United States Army veteran and a member of the John Barnett Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #196. He was a licensed pilot and loved to fly.
Survivors include his wife, Eudine Warden Deal; a daughter, Barbara Deal Shaw of Newark; a brother, Lee Roy Deal of Springfield, Mo.; three sisters, Alene Marney of Newark, Audie Lowen and Marie Starr, both of Wichita, Kan.; a grandchild, Karla Smith of Newark; and a great-grandchild, Jerrod Deal Smith of Newark.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jewel Deal; three sisters, Lorene Bookout, Verble Wood and Ethel Wood.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Newark with the Rev. Bill Goodwin officiating. Burial will be at Blue Springs Cemetery with arrangements by Jackson's Newark Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are Kenneth Warden, Thomas Warden, Justin Smith, Larry Marshall, Bob Morrison and Randy Morrison.
