He was the son of Dempsey & Mary Gibson Cook. He married Sarah Malvina Wallace & Nancy Mulvina Simrill. During the Civil War he served in the 18th South Carolina Volunteers, Catawba Light Infantry Company H. He enlisted on January 14, 1864 as a Private at Camp Guerin, South Carolina. He was taken prisoner on April 6, 1865 at Farmville Virginia.
