Albin "Skipper" Louis Waskevich, 69, of Auburn, Massachusetts died suddenly on Dec. 25, 2012.
He left his wife of 30 years Elinor (Koury) Waskevich; three daughters: Diana L. MacLeod and her husband Robert of Groton, Dawn M. Bake of N. Brookfield, and Kristen M. Pappas of Auburn; seven grandchildren: Alison, Duncan and Tynan MacLeod; Zachary and Jonah Bake; and Derek and Dominic Pappas; his siblings Loretta Kuizinas-Carpenter of Florida, Susan Anderson of Worcester, Marie Waskevich of Spencer, Denise Adams of Spencer and Daniel Waskevich of Leicester and his stepbrother, Dennis Groleau of Franklin. He also left nine very special nieces and nephews including his godsons, Daniel Albin Waskevich and the deceased Ryan Kuizinas.
Born April 28, 1943 in Worcester, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Loretta (Mitchell) (Waskevich) Groleau and Abin D. Waskevich. Albin was the oldest of six children.
He grew up in Spencer, MA and was a 1961 graduate of David Prouty High School where he was an avid basketball player. He won a basketball scholarship to St. Michael's College in Winooski, Vermont. He later attended Holy Cross College in Worcester, MA, where he graduated. In addition, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Clark University in Worcester, MA. He served in the United States Coast Guard Reserve and retired as a lieutenant commander. He was a general contractor in Auburn and had owned and operated his own business for over 30 years. He was an active volunteer in Auburn.
One of his greatest passions was spending time traveling across the country in his motor home and gathering the family together for annual camping trips. Above all else, he loved his family and was happiest when surrounded by them all.
Relatives and friends were invited to visit with Albin's family on Tuesday, Jan.1, 2013 from 2 to 5 p.m. in Britton Wallace Funeral Home, 91Central Street, Auburn. A service celebrating his life was held Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Pakachoag Church, 203 Pakachoag Street, Auburn, MA.
It took me a long time to be able to memorialize my brother here. His loss was such a shock and happened so suddenly that it just didn't seem real. We all looked up to Skip. He was such a kind and loving brother and was the patriarch of our family. He was very active and when he wasn't working, he was helping others. I miss him so very, very much and look forward to the day we meet again in Heaven. What a glorious day that will be!
Love Always & Forever,
Susan
