Born June 29, 1911, in Champaign to Ward and Leura Chase Adams,
He married Mildred Steider. She died March 22, 1956, in Washington.
He later married LaVone Gentry Hett on Aug. 5, 1961, in Washington. She survives.
Also surviving are one son, Robert of Washington; one daughter, Sharon (and Don) Puryear of Washington; one stepson, Robert (and Karen) Hett of Washington; one stepdaughter, Sharon (and Dr. Gerald) Essington of Greenfield, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; and 12 greatgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Ward on March 16, 1968, in Hinsdale and William on Feb. 18, 1940, in Eureka; one stepson, Kenneth Hett on June 13, 1963, in Chicago; and one sister.
He attended Eureka College and was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.
He received his doctorate in osteopathy from Kirksville College of Osteopathy in Kirksville, Mo., in 1939.
He was a doctor of osteopathy for 55 years, working 50 of those years in Washington, until retiring in 1994.
He was a past president of the Washington Grade School District 52 PTA, the Washington Civic Association and the Washington Recreation Association.
He and his wife, LaVone, were awarded the Washingtonian award for community service in 2000.
He was also a member of Taylor Lodge 98, AF&AM; Ancient & Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Peoria; and Mohammed Shrine in Peoria.
He was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Washington.
