Born Oct. 24, 1942, in Brooklyn, Ill., he was the son of Arthur David and Mary Elizabeth Stolp Akers. On Feb. 1, 1977, he married Barbara Wyss in Dallas City, Ill.
Mr. Akers was a truck driver for Rocor Trucking. He was a member of Burlington Ward Quarum of Elders and Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints of Burlington.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Rachel Akers of Mediapolis and Ashley Akers of Oakville; one son, Jerry Akers Jr. of Keokuk; two grandchildren; one brother, Floyd Akers of Burlington; and one sister, Dorothy Haynes of Burlington.
Visitation will be from 7 to 830 p.m. Sunday at Prugh's Chapel.
The funeral for Mr. Akers will be 10 a.m. Monday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with Bishop G.M. Hammond officiating. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.
A memorial has been established.
