She was born May 27, 1924, in Fairland, Oklahoma, to Abe L. French and Edna L. (Brock) French. Myrel attended school in Fairland. She married her one and only love, her sweetheart of 66 years, Darrell Eugene Craig of Miami, on September 8, 1942. She worked at Farrier's IGA for several years before becoming a substitute mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. After which she became a full time rural route mail carrier until her retirement.
Myrel was a member of the First Baptist Church, Miami, but for the past few years she attended the First Christian Church, Miami.
Myrel enjoyed cooking, sewing, and gardening. She also loved fishing and square dancing with her life-long partner, her husband. Spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren was very special to her.
She is survived by her daughters Connie Wallace of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Diane Stowell and husband, Ron, of Miami; and son, Brent Craig, of Miami. She is also survived by her grandchildren Craig Litle and wife, Dana, of The Woodlands, Texas, Kim Jordan and husband, C.J., of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, and Michael Wallace and wife, Cassie, of Tulsa, Scott Stowell and wife, Carrie, of Edmond, Oklahoma, Bryan Stowell of Tulsa, Gina Rentfrow and husband, Jeramie, of Miami, and Olivia White of Tulsa. Great grandchildren are Lauren and Jacob Litle; Drew and Rachel Hendricks; Erin and Arick Knight; Madison and Logan Wallace; Ellesee, Britton, Veronica, and Vivian Stowell; Karly and Macy Rentfrow and Jace Johnson (White). Great great grandchild is Cael Knight.
She was preceded in passing by her husband, father, mother, sister, Lorene Huffaker, son-in-law, Ed Wallace, and grandson, Socrates Johnson.
Funeral services will be on her birthday, Monday, May 27, 2013, 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church, Miami, Oklahoma. Minister Leon Weece will officiate. Burial will follow at the Fairland Cemetery, Fairland, Oklahoma under the direction of the Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Visitation will be from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 26 at the Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Miami, OK.
Pallbearers will be the grandsons: Craig Litle, Bryan Stowell, Scott Stowell, Britton Stowell, Michael Wallace, and Drew Hendricks.
