Elizabeth (Lib) Allred Hodnett, 88, of Dublin, Va., died at her residence on January 8, 2006. She was born in Mt. Airy, N.C. on September 18, 1917 and was the daughter of the late Paul and Zella Allred. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fred A. Hodnett, Sr.; and by a brother, Paul Allred, Jr. Lib was a native of White Plains, N.C. and worked for 15 years at the U.S. Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. She was also employed by Hercules, Inc. and Bank of America. Lib was a devoted member of New Dublin Presbyterian Church where she served in many roles. She was also involved for a number of years with the New River Valley Fine Arts Center. Surviving are her daughter, Nancy H. Smith, Durham, N.C.; son, Fred A. Hodnett, Jr., Ashland, Va.; sister, Mrs. Frances Velebir, Richmond, Va.; nephew, John Velebir III, Raleigh, N.C.; niece, Patty V. Campbell, Richmond, Va.; grandchildren, Mary Margaret Boulware, Sarah S. Boone, Andrew Q. Hodnett, Samuel A. Hodnett; great-nephew, Marshall Tucker Velebir. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. from the New Dublin Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jean Brown officiating. Interment will follow at 3:30 p.m. from the Chatham Cemetery in Chatham, Va. Visiting will be Tuesday evening at Stevens Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Dublin Presbyterian Church or to the Gentle Shepherd Hospice, 6045 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, Va. 24019.
