DEATH OF J.J. BARRETT
J.J. Barrett, highly respected resident of David City for the past 22 years, passed away at his home in North David City at 1:45 o'clock Monday afternoon, Nov. 29, at the age of 81 years and 5 months. He had been in poor health for some three years.
Joseph James Barrett was born June 29, 1856 at Hartford, Conn., a son of Thomas and Julia Barrett. He was married in Alexis, Ill., on February 9, 1880, to Hannah Moran, who survives him. They lived on a farm near Raymond for many years, retiring in 1915 and moving to David City. Besides his wife, he leaves two brothers, William and Thomas Barrett of Agnew, and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Moran of David City, and Mrs. Julia Martin of Valparaiso.
A man of quiet and pleasing manner, charitable and hospitable, a devout Catholic with a pleasant greeting for all whom he met, Mr. Barrett had made a host of friends during his lifetime who will ever remember him for his many good qualities of character.
Funeral services were held this (Thursday) morning at St. Mary's Catholic church, David City, at 9:30 o'clock, in charge of Rev. W. A. Murphy, assisted by Rev. Dennis Barry of Colon. The pallbearers were Donald Martin, Paul Martin, John Martin, John Moran, Tom Moran and George Denham, nephews of Mr. Barrett. Burial was in St. Joseph's Catholic cemetery at Agnew.
