Ralph William Hone was born in Sandusky, Ohio on November 4, 1872 to John Henry & Mary Hevener Hone. He moved to Nebraska in the 1890s, working as a farmer. He married Mary Jane McSwan, of Otoe, Nebraska there on May 1, 1901. Mary Jane passed away July 1907. They had no children. Ralph then moved to the Pacific Northwest, where he first worked as a machinist for the Northern Pacific Railroad, in Tacoma, Washington. On June 8, 1914 he married Alice Mathilda Gum, in Lane County, Oregon. Alice was a widow, with three daughters. They had two sons together, Ralph and Richard. Ralph worked primarily as a farmer in Lane county until his death by heart attack on July 13, 1944.
