John E. Harney Jr., 83, a long-time resident of Las Vegas, passed away May 21, 2013. He was born Sept. 11, 1929, in New York. He retired as petty officer 1st class with the U.S. Navy, and then worked for REEco. He was involved in many fraternal organizations in various leadership positions. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patty. He is survived by his children, John (Pat), Steve (Linda), Sherry Allotta (Tony), Ed (Melodie) and Debbie Goris (John); 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; along with sisters, Betsy and Susie; and brothers, Terry and Kit. Viewing will be noon-2 p.m. Sunday, May 26, with the funeral service following, both at Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, at Palm Valley View Memorial Park, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.
