Madonna was born in Red Island, Placentia Bay, Newfoundland. She immigrated to the US with her parents about 1920. After her mother died, she was in & out of foster care (along with her siblings) until her father remarried to a lady named Margaret. Madonna thought Margaret was great, but the marriage didn't last. Finally, about 1935, Madonna went to live with her mother's younger sister, Catherine Walsh McCue (#111062041) and her husband Tom. She completed her high school years in South Boston, while living with her aunt & uncle. Madonna married Tom Mulrey in 1941.
