Remains of John Schlicht Brought to Walnut From Mississippi For Interment.
John Schlicht, son of John Schlicht and Margaret Maglsaen, was born in Germany on November 3, 1843. Growing to manhood there, he was married to Margaretha nee Ketelsen. During the year 1867 they came to America and settled at Tama City, Iowa. Here they lived for seven years and then came to the Walnut vicinity settling on a farm ten miles south of Walnut. In the year 1896 the deceased moved to Okolona, Mississippi, locating on a fifteen hundred acre plantation, where he was engaged in raising corn and cotton. At this place he lived thirty years, until his death which resulted from heart trouble, the end coming on December 17.
Those who mourn his departure are his wife, Margaret; eleven children. His eldest son, Jerry, having preceded him in death April 19, 1924. The children remaining are as follows: Anna Linkleiter of Atlantic, Iowa; Hans Schlicht address unknown; Jane Willms, of Walnut; Tena Jones of Missouri; Mary Willms of Lewis; Feba Garber of Tipton, Iowa; Lizzie Willms of Walnut; Maggie Nelson of Lewis; Hannes Schlicht and Willie Schlicht, both of Walnut; and Herman Schlicht of Okolona, Miss. He is also survived by fifty-four grandchildren, besides a large number of more distant relatives and friends.
Short funeral services were held at the old home place, 10 miles south of Walnut, and at 2:30 at the Lutheran church in Walnut, on Thursday, December 23; Rev. Walter F. Kicker, pastor of the Evangelical church, officiating. Interment was made in the Walnut cemetery. [The Walnut Bureau, Dec. 30, 1926, p. 1]
