ROCHESTER -- A memorial service for Marcella E. Boe will be at 1 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church in Rochester, with the Rev. Jay Rowland officiating.
Mrs. Boe, 98, of Rochester, died Sunday (June 25, 2006) at Charter House.
Marcella Esther Bhend was born Oct. 16, 1907, in LeRoy. She graduated from LeRoy High School and earned a degree in education from Winona Teachers College. She taught school in western Minnesota, northeastern North Dakota, Adams and Plainview. On Sept. 1, 1945, she married Ernest O. "Ernie" Boe in LeRoy, and they moved to Rochester in 1946. She worked as a substitute teacher then taught full-time at Kellogg Junior High from 1965 until retiring in 1972. Her husband was an operating engineer in construction. She was a volunteer with the Pink Ladies and at Heritage House, was a board member with Friends of the Public Library and the American Association of University Women, and was a member of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years.
Survivors include a son, Brian Dean Boe of St. Paul. She was preceded in death by her husband in July 1991, three sisters and a brother.
Memorials are preferred to a charity of the donor's choice.
