Clarence W. Clark (CLARK), of Fircrest passed away peacefully early Monday morning, May 22, 2000, at Tacoma General Hospital.
Clark was born March 25, 1917, in Monida, Montana and moved to Tacoma with his mother and sisters in the late 1920's. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps on Mount Rainier as a young man. He was a mechanic at Muller Harkins Buick prior to starting South Tacoma Taxi in 1945. He later expanded his business, as owner-operator, to include ambulance service. He sold Tacoma Yellow Cab and Ambulance in 1975 and subsequently worked at Nichols Trucking. He retired in 1980. During his retirement he traveled with his wife Elma (Fritz) and spent winters in Cathedral City, CA.
Clark took great pleasure and pride in his family and many friends. He married Elma Fritz in 1940 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Tacoma. They had two daughters, Judith Wright, of Port Orchard and Toni Clark of Alexandria, VA.
He is survived by his wife, daughters, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. His seven grandchildren are Jeff Jolibois, Keyport, WA, Chris Jolibois, Port Orchard, WA, Noelle Jolibois Thaden, Tacoma, WA, Karen Bell, Alexandria, VA, Jeff Bell, New York City, Stephen Bell, Boston, MA and David Clark Bell, Alexandria, VA. His surviving sisters are Betty Fisher and Marjorie Taylor, both of Tacoma. Clark was preceded in death by his oldest grandson, Todd Clark Jolibois and his mother and father, Katherine and Frederick, two sisters, Mary Fijalka and Shirley Keller.
Clark's smile and enthusiasm for life were contagious, his mechanical abilities were legendary and he had a gift for making friends wherever he was. He was a pioneer in both public transportation and emergency medical service in Tacoma. Clark will be sincerely missed by all whose lives he touched.
