Mel was born in Roseburg on June 30, 1922 to Melvin Senior and Violet Ellison. Then in 1950, he met and married Betty Jean Clark and was married for 59 years until Betty died in October of 2009. His life was filled with many memories of the Navy, his family trips to various places, building and driving midget race cars, and his expertise in dealing and selling cars. He was also very active in church programs at both Roseway Presbyterian and Eastminister Presbyterian churches.
He is survived by his two daughters, Janis Ellison and Penny Voller; one granddaughter, Jennel Rowe; and four great-grandchildren. There will be a memorial service held at Parkrose Community United Church of Christ, 12505 NE Halsey Street, Portland, OR, May 25, at 1 p.m.
