J.A. "Jay" Smith, 84 of Bokchito, Oklahoma was born on July 29, 1928 in Mead, Oklahoma to James and Myrtle Kiser Smith and passed away on May 20, 2013 in Denison, Texas at the age of 84 years 9 months and 21 days.
Jay has been a lifelong resident of Bryan County and worked for several auto parts businesses in Bryan Co. Jay married Dorothy Hendley on March 4, 1977 in Durant and they were blessed with 36 plus years together. He attended the Red River Valley Cowboy Church in Albany and he loved to ride his horses and he enjoyed hunting.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bobby Lynn Smith; brothers, Hershel and Arvin Smith; sisters, Ruby Brown and Tidley James and granddaughter, Regina Stathmus.
Jay is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Dorothy Smith of the home; children, James Dwayne Smith and wife Rita of McAlester, OK, Glenda Renea Springer and husband Randy of McAlester, OK, Terry Gene Smith of Farmington, NM, Dana Michelle Herring and husband Steven of Bokchito, OK, David Reyneart of Sherman, TX and Denise Whitten and husband Mike of Tulsa, OK; sister, Beuna Stowe of Bokchito, OK; 12 grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, May 23, 2013 at the Rock Creek Community Church in Bokchito with Pastor George Toma officiating. Interment will follow in Bokchito Cemetery with Jackie Smith, Jimmie Smith, Chance Smith, Cody Smith, Gage Brookshire and Steven Herring serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 6-8 PM.
