Joseph LeCompte Hursh died in Naples, FL, on May 31, 2006 with his family at his side.

Mr. Hursh was born in Harrisburg, PA on January 2, 1924 to the late Dr. Robert M. Hursh and Alicia L. LeCompte.

He served in World War II with the US Navy on the destroyer escort USS Caps and was discharged in 1947.

He was employed in the automotive business 25 years, then with the PA Military Affairs as Service Officer until 1985, receiving a letter of commendation from President Regan for his contributions in assisting his fellow servicemen.

He, his wife and family lived 25 years in Mechanicsburg, PA. They then moved to Landisburg, PA in 1976 where he was a two term mayor.

They restored their home, the Dunbar-Craig house, which was subsequently placed on the National Register. His interests included hunting, fishing, boating, and automobiles.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years Ruth Brenizer; his sons, Joseph L. Hursh of Shippensburg, Thomas A. Hursh (Margaret Jones) of Enola; daughter, Barbara H. Eyestone (Ronald) of Huntsville, AL; granddaughter, Kelly A. Hursh ; nephews, Robert M., Walter and Hart Hursh . He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and brothers, Robert M. and Hart L.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
