Gerald J. "Jerry" Taylor, 83, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died on Wednesday morning, May 30, 2012 at the Maquoketa Care Center in Maquoketa, Iowa.

Friends and family may gather to celebrate Jerry's life from 1 to 4 P.M. on Sunday, June 10, 2012 at the Carson Celebration of Life Center in Maquoketa. A private graveside service and burial will be held from the Union Cemetery, rural Maquoketa, at a later date.

Gerald James Taylor was born on February 12, 1929 in Onslow, Iowa, to Lee E. Taylor Sr. and Evelyn (Eye) Taylor. He attended Jackson County country schools and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He married Esther F. McPherson on January 17, 1954 in Maquketa, Iowa.

Upon receiving his honorable discharge, Jerry worked for Bowman Cattle Company for over 20 years. He then worked for Caraway Feeds in Maquoketa for over 25 years and lastly for Maquoketa Feeds until retirement.

Jerry was a member of the Maquoketa American Legion Post #75. He enjoyed feeding the birds, watching television, bowling and NASCAR racing. He especially enjoyed doing yard work.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Esther Taylor of Maquoketa, IA; children, Diane (Dennis) Luett of Maquoketa, IA, Tom (Teri) Taylor of Delmar, IA, Denise (Scott) Kirk of Maquoketa, IA and Tim (Tracy) Taylor of Carefree, AZ; 12 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild, Decker Jaxson Bates; brothers, Billy (Connie) Taylor of Maquoketa, IA, Roger (Deb) Taylor of Baldwin, IA, Eugene (Linda) Taylor of MI, and Bob Ellithorpe of Maquoketa, IA; and sisters, Lola (Jim) Marshall of Maquoketa, IA, Carol Marjowski of Platteville, WI, and Karen (Alan) Andresen of Lost Nation, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Debra Stamm, 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
