ASTORIA -- Ada M. Hopping, 91, of Astoria died at 8:55 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, 1994, at her home.
Born Nov. 25, 1902, in Vermont, Ill., to Clayton and Elizabeth Derry Greenplate, she married Fred M. Smith in 1923. She later married Floyd "Jake" Hopping on July 9, 1953. He died Dec. 23, 1969. Two sons, Harvey Smith and Fred Smith Jr., three brothers and three grandsons also preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son, Arthur Smith of LaSalle; three daughters, Wilma Mathews of Ottawa, Helen Westcott of Astoria and Elizabeth Frances Hansan of Palm Springs, Calif.; five sisters, Anna Lee Shores of Avon, Viola Prather of Rushville, Mildred Steadman of Bryant, Hilda Thompson of Farris and Wilda Rosenbloom of Carthage; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was a Gold Star Mother.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Collis Trone will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the memorial home. Burial will be in Union Chapel Cemetery.
