John Paul Miles "J.P."
John Paul Miles, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2004. His devoted wife and family were at his side.
Paul was born October 27, 1918 in Ioka, Utah to Eva May Benson and Ralph Maxwell Miles. He spent his childhood in Ioka and graduated from Roosevelt High School. He attended the UofU, BYU, and graduated from Palmer Chiropractic College in 1949.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He married his beautiful companion, Lorna Snarr, on December 20, 1946, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He retired from Hercules, Inc. in 1981 as an industrial x-ray technician. He dedicated his life to his family and the LDS Church. He served in many callings including three bishoprics, stake clerk, high councilman, and Jordan River Temple ordinance worker. He and his companion, Lorna, served two missions together; Australia, Brisbane, laboring in Papua New Guinea, and Atlanta Temple.
He greatly enjoyed gardening, riding his horses, jogging, golfing, fishing and hunting. His love for his family is reflected in the lives of his children. He will always be remembered for his quiet strength and wonderful example. He is loved by many and will never be forgotten.
Survived by his wife, Lorna, Taylorsville; children, Ginger (Randell) Munk, Orem; Jolene (Dale) Lingmann, Dumas,Tx; Steven Paul (Debra] Poulsbo,Wa; Janis Destromp, Kearns; Douglas John (Lorraine) Taylorsville; 18 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Leo, Glenn, (Rosa) and Joe (Betty). Preceded in death by parents; brother Arthur and sister Elaine (infants); sister, Ora (Jack) Simons; and brothers, Rey (Elaine), Harold (Muriel).
Funeral services will be Saturday, 12 noon at the LDS Riverview Ward, 5550 South 1325 West. Viewings will be Friday, 6-8 pm at McDougal Funeral Home, 4330 South Redwood Rd and Saturday at the church, 11-11:45 am. Interment, Murray City Cemetery, 5490 S Vine St.
