Chico Enterprise-Record, Tuesday, June 15, 1993: "Lawrence Bethard. Durham --- A graveside service for lifelong Durham resident Lawrence Otis Bethard, 79, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Clear Creek Cemetery off Clark Road. He died Sunday, June 13, 1993, in a Chico hospital.

"Bethard was born July 8, 1913, in Durham, and attended Yuba College. A retired well driller, he owned and operated L. O. Well Drilling for 19 years. Bethard co-owned and operated Chico Boiler and Burner Service prior to his drilling career, and was the co-founder and director of the Bank of Paradise. He was a member of the Richmond Masonic Lodge, Richmond Order of the Eastern Star, Durham Rotary Club, Paradise Rotary Club, Paradise Moose Lodge and E. Clampus Vitus 7-11 of Paradise.

"Survivors include his wife, Jan of Durham; two sons, James of Paradise and Robert Melbourn of Sacramento; a daughter, Sharyn Newman of Clovis; four brothers, Melvin of Red Bluff, Wesley of Durham, Myron of Texas and William of Oroville; two sisters, Myra and Mildred Sciligo, both of Durham; and 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

"Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children or Enloe Hospice, in care of Rose Chapel mortuary in Paradise, which is handling arrangements."
