"Dr. Francois Ruiz Alpuente was born on a day historic and memorable in the annals of the United States -- the fourth of July, 1814. He received his education at St. Joseph's College, Bardstown, Kentucky, and then went to Paris to study medicine. On his return to New Orleans he began his practice in his native city and soon rose to the front rank in his profession. He married Mathilde Antoinette Hepburn, daughter of James Hepburn and Mathilde de Morant, and granddaughter of Vincent, Chevalier de Morant. The issue of this marriage was Mrs. Mathilde Alpuente Bailey; Louise Alpuente, who married Alfred Colomb; Bertha Alpuente, and Henry Alpuente. After the death of his first wife, Doctor Alpuente married Zoe' le Breton des Chappelles, and by this union became the father of Gabriel Alpuente, Marie Alpuente, who married Edward Michel; Odette Alpuente, who married Jules Michel, and James Amirault de Plessis Alpuente. Doctor Alpuente died May 15, 1875."
