PFC David A. Fleischer was an air traffic controller serving with C Battery, 1st Light Antiaircraft Missile Battalion, Marine Air Control Group 18 (MACG-18), 1st Marine Aircraft Wing (1st MAW). On November 23, 1968, PFC Fleischer was reportedly participating in a work detail when he was critically injured after being hit in the head when another individual accidently discharged a .45 pistol. Fleischer was initially medivacked for treatment to the Naval Support Activity Station Hospital in Da Nang, RVN. He was later evacuated to the U.S. Army 106th General Hospital in Yokohama, Japan, where he succumbed to his injury on December 16, 1968.
