Mary Ellen (Curtis) Morton passed away on December 147, 2002, in the same house she was born in the Chalk Bluff Community. She was born on November 15, 1949, to Walter James and Juanita (Bigby) Curtis and departed this life at the age of 53 years, 1 month and 2 days. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister.
She is survived by her husband Stephen of the home; one daughter, Holly Anne Morton of Stilwell; two sons, Stephen Wade and William Walter of Tulsa; two granddaughters, Brittany Anne Sanders and Hannah Elaine Morton of Stilwell; three sisters, Shirley and Gaylon Ferguson of Tulsa; Betty and Dr. Jimmy Carl Dawson of Vinita; and Peggy and Dr. Ken Rains of Pryor; an aunt, Lillian McGee of Stilwell; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many, many dear friends.
She served as Adair County Election Board Secretary since 1986, receiving the 2002 Oklahoma Public Official Award Excellence. She was a member of Faith Tabernacle Church.
Mary will be remembered for her wonderfully positive zest for life, for her loving devotion to her family, for her grace and dignity in dealing with others and with her illness, and especially for her absolute faith in God.
