Irene was married to Nealan Ellis Shaver on July 25, 1945. They raised four children; a daughter, Violet Clarke, of Florida and three sons, George Shaver, of South Dakota, Lindsay Shaver, of California and Donald Shaver, of California. She has eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Irene had a very strong spiritual life and was very active in the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. She had a long career at Tehachapi Hospital prior to retiring as a licensed vocational nurse. She enjoyed her family, horseback riding, hiking, piano, singing, gardening, observing the stars and being outside.
A celebration of her life was held at Susanville, CA Seventh-Day Adventist Church on Friday, May 17, 2013. Graveside services were held at Tehachapi Cemetery on Monday, May 20, 2013. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the charity of your choice.
