Born to Lottie and John Kemplin.

Rosa married JJ Burton in 1899 in Brown County, Ohio. She was JJ's second wife, her step children were Jennie Luella (who was the same age as her), Rebecca Jane, Lottie and Samuel Benjamin.

Together Rosa and JJ had at least nine children, Alde, Flora (b. about 1907), Memphis, Andrew, John (b. about 1911), Milford (b. 1912), Jesse Woodrow, Harrison and Anna (b. about 1917). The family lived in Nashtown, Kentucky and around the time of Rosa's death moved to the Burtonville area.

Son Andrew died the next day, also of pneumonia.
