Mr. Beal was born Dec. 4, 1934, in Newcomerstown, Ohio, to Ulmont and Margaret (Plants) Beal. He joined the Air Force after graduating from high school, serving his country for 20 years as a security police officer and as a firearms instructor. While on active duty in England, Ulmont met Helen Robb from Aberdeen, Scotland, who became his wife. They were married July 16, 1954, in England. Mr. Beal had lived in Anchorage since 1972 after retiring from the Air Force while stationed at Eielson Air Force Base in Fairbanks. Mr. Beal's interests included marksmanship, restoring and collecting guns, genealogy, computers, the Alaska outdoors, and spending time with his family. He was a member of the First Congregational Church. He is survived by his wife, Helen; daughter, Donna Glantzer of Georgia; his brother, Gary Beal of California; grandchildren, Eric Walters, Jeremiah Walters, Heather Porter and Jason Porter, all of Anchorage, six other grandchildren in Georgia; four great-grandchildren; and several other relatives in the lower 48. Mr. Beal was preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah Porter.
