November 17, 2011, at the age of 86. He was born on October 29, 1925 to a ranching family in Savery, Wyoming, in the Little Snake River Valley. He graduated from high school and then enlisted in the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF). Stan was a World War II veteran as a gunner on B17 aircraft. He attended the University of Wyoming and Arizona State University.
Stan met his wife, Sandra Olson, at Focus Dude Ranch in
Slater, Colorado, and they were happily married for 52 years. He had two daughters Pamela Hays Weaver and Sheila Hays Stites and was blessed with three granddaughters, one great-granddaughter and son-in-laws Denny Weaver and Derrick Stites.
Stan had a varied career including auctioneer, rancher, real estate salesman, owner of an RV Park at Dry Creek, Oregon, and he retired from Umpqua National Forest Service in 1989.
He was preceded in death by his mother Kate Gooldy Hays,
father Harrison Lowe Hays Sr., three sisters, and five brothers. He is survived by his wife Sandy, daughters, granddaughters, son-in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and innumerable friends, and his dog Smoky.
The world lost a wonderful husband, dad, granddad and friend. His Oregon friends and family celebrated his life June 23. 2012 up at a favorite spot of Stan's, the Illahee at Dry Creek, Oregon. Also a memorial service at Savery, Wyoming September 2, 2012.
