John Earl Gruntz, 60, of Beechview died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2004, at Manor Care of Greentree.
Born July 17, 1943, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of Ruth Lee Gruntz and the late John Earl Gruntz Sr. He was a Navy veteran for six years and served in the Army reserves for two years. He was an employee of PennDOT and a deacon and member of the First Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Marion "Kay" Westfall Gruntz. Brother of Naomi Foley of Pittsburgh, Roda Scott of Bethel Park, Karen Gruntz of Pittsburgh, James Gruntz of Greenville, S.C., and Gary Gruntz of Carrick.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his son, John Earl Gruntz. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the William Eckels Funeral Home, 1923 Broadway Ave., Beechview. Services will follow at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the First Presbyterian Church, 320 6th Ave., Downtown, the Rev. Robert Leslie Holmes officiating.
Interment will follow in the Mt. Lebanon Cemetery. Arrangements by the ELMER L. HERMAN FUNERAL HOME, John N. Bauer - Supervisor, 5204 Second Ave., Pittsburgh.
