John Cole was born in New Milford, CT to Timothy and Rebekah (Dibble) Cole. Nothing is known about his early life but he did marry Abigail Wood of New Milford in 1785. (after his service as a Revolutionary War soldier). At some unknown date the couple moved to Cornwall, CT where John probably worked as a farmer. They had three children, all boys who grew up in Cornwall. Abigail died in 1826 and John lived for about 14 more years, dying in 1840. John and Abigail were buried at Cornwall Village Cemetery (Cemetery Hill Rd), in Cornwall, CT. John has two gravestones; one a family stone and the other a military stone. John never applied for a soldiers pension.
