Ethel Marie "Snooks" Poteet, 97, passed away May 14, 2013 in Canon City, Colorado. She was born in Canon City on July 25, 1915 to John and Minnie M. (McCrory) Morgan. Ethel was united in marriage to Howard M. Poteet on August 19, 1934 in Canon City, Colorado. They owned and operated the Otero Lumber Co. and Lindsay Soft Water Service in La Junta, Colorado for several years. In 1993, Snooks and Howard moved to Canon City, where she has resided since. Snooks was a Deacon at United Presbyterian Church in Canon City, a lifetime member of Eastern Star, and a member of Daughters of the Nile. She was also an avid golfer and played bridge weekly. Mrs. Poteet is survived by 2 granddaughters, Kellie Rixse of Anchorage, Alaska; and Kim (Doug) Tapscott of Coatesville, Pennsylvania; 5 great-grandchildren: Sean (Mercy) Tapscott and Jason Tapscott, Chad Rixse, Cody Rixse and Carissa (Joshua) Guernsey; and 4 great-great grandchildren: Liliana and Damien Tapscott, Tiffany and Cherie Guernsey. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Kevin L'Shawn Harris in 1974, her husband, Howard in 1998; and her daughter, Charla Joanne Harris in 2000. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, May 31, 2013 at Wilson Funeral Home Chapel, 1449 South 9th in Canon City, CO, with interment to follow at Lakeside Cemetery. There will be a reception at Merlino's Belvedere Restaurant, 1330 Elm Ave beginning at noon. Arrangements handled through Wilson Funeral Home.
