Services will be at 11 am Tuesday at Jordan Memorial Baptist Church with the Reverends Chuck Sprouse and Andy Bowers officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Dennis Humphries, Bryan Carruth, Jimmy Tullis, Charles Cotton, Steve Hilley and Jimmy Peeler. Honorary escort will be George Jones, Talmadge Brookshire, Tim Dixon, Gene Pinson and the Staff at Morningside Assisted Living. The family is at the home. The family will receive friends at Harley Funeral Home on Monday from 6 to 8 pm. The body will be placed in the church at 10 a.m. on Tuesday.
Obituary: Cecil Vernon "Slim" Rachels, 86, of 214 Sagewood Road, husband of Marietta Seymour Rachels, died Saturday, July 25, 2009 at Hospice House of Greenwood.
Born in Vidalia, GA, he was the son of the late Lester and Mattie Henry Rachels. He was retired from Satterfield Construction Company and was a US Army veteran of World War II and was a member of Jordan Memorial Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to his wife of the home; are four children, Werner Meyer of Bremerhaven, Germany, Gail Carruth and her husband, Larry, of Greenwood, Larry Rachels and his wife, Donna, of Williamston, Janice Banister and her husband, John Tom, of Bradley; two brothers, Pete Rachels of Greenwood and Earl Rachels of Idaho; twelve grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and a special lifelong friend, Graham "Fox" Williams.
