Muriel Mobley Anderson
FT. GAINES — Muriel (Mo) Mobley Anderson died at her home, Saturday, October 18, 2008. She was born on April 29, 1924, to Thomas Ward and Rosalie W. Mobley in Henry County, Alabama. She was a 1941 graduate of Fort Gaines High School. She attended Georgia State College for Women (GSCW) for two years and graduated from the University of Georgia in 1945.
Mo worked at the Clay County Department of Family and Children's Services for 19 years. Active in many and varied community affairs, she was an Elder in the church she loved, the Fort Gaines Presbyterian Church, and she served on the Clay County Library Board. Most of all, she was truly a Southern lady, full of personality, charm, and wit. No matter the circumstances, she was able to joke with those around her and amuse them with her funny stories (over and over and over).
She was married to the late G. Von Anderson, founder of Anderson Construction Company of Ft. Gaines. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband and is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Jerry and Sally Anderson of Eufaula, AL, Charles H. Anderson of Atlanta, and Mick Anderson of Ft. Gaines; three daughters and sons-in-law, Gay and Frank Wright of Birmingham, AL, Kevin and Tom Baxley of Blakely, and Joy and J. David Brown, DMD of Watkinsville; two sisters, Norma Driebe and Carol Binns, both of Atlanta; and 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The service will be held today (Monday) 11 a.m. October 20, 2008, at the Ft. Gaines Presbyterian Church, with interment in New Park Cemetery. The service will be conducted by the Rev. Walter Flint, with eulogies by two of her grandchildren, Elizabeth Baxley-Bowen and Trey Anderson. Pallbearers will be her six grandsons, Trey Anderson, David Anderson, Matthew Anderson, Brown Anderson, Candler Baxley and Trent Brown.
In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions may be made to Ft. Gaines Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 1, Ft. Gaines, GA 39851, Albany Library for the Blind, 300 Pine Ave., Albany, GA 31701, or to Wiregrass Hospice , 831 W. Washington St., Eufaula, AL 36027.
