Oct 29, 1908 - Carroll Times - Adolph Heinrich Brueggeman was born October 31, 1832, in Herrford Westphalia, Germany. He was reared there and had the advantage of receiving a good education in his native home. In 1858 he immigrated to America and settled at New Orleans, La. After a few months he went to St. Louis, Mo., where he went into business, which he followed for a number of years.

He was married May 20th, 1862 to Miss Wilhelmina Charlotte Stahlhut, of Quincy, Illinois. In 1865 he removed with his family to Cumberland Co., Illinois, where he look up farming. Mr. Bruggeman frequently and favorably spoke of the primitive and more natural life of that time. In 1872 he again removed his family and they came to Arcadia, Iowa, where he has lived ever since. His marriage was blessed with six children: four daughters and two sons; two of the daughters died in infancy.

He was bereaved of his wife a few years after his coming to this county, since then he has been living with his children. Father Brueggeman was blessed with a rugged and robust constitution, even after he grew old he was spry and active. He was gifted with an ambitious nature. He greatly loved to read and read a great deal; he was well posted on natural, ancient and general history. He was a consistent member of the German Presbyterian church ever since its organization in Arcadia.

About a year ago he was dangerously ill from which he never fully recovered. On the night of October 18th, he was suddenly stricken by a paralytic stroke of which he died early in the morning, October 22nd, 1908, age about 76 years.

The funeral was held at the Presbyterian church Rev. Kingold officiating, after which a large concourse of people showed their esteem of the departed by following the remains to the Brueggeman cemetery, in spite of the downfall of rain, where interment was made.

There remain to mourn his loss his children: Pauline Charlotte, who lived with her father and Mrs. Emma J. Hofeld of Carroll, Neb.; Franklin A. and Herman F together with their families; besides three brothers and one sister. The bereaved ones have our heartfelt sympathy.
