Arlene Louise Brown Ackermann, 72, died Thursday, May 2, 2013, at The Manors at Hobe Sound in Hobe Sound, FL.

She resided in Stuart for the past 17 years, moving from Idaho Falls, ID in April 1996, after her retirement as a secretary and computer graphics assistant at Idaho National Laboratories, Department of Energy.

She was born Aug. 26, 1940 in Bath, ME, the eldest daughter of Edward Brown Jr. and Virginia May (Preney) Brown (both deceased).

She was a graduate of Hartford Public High School (Class of 1959), Hartford, CT.

In 1960, she married Robert E. Buchholz, and lived in California and Japan; they had three children.

In 1969 she married George Russell Ackermann in Hawaii.

Both husbands predeceased her.

She was a skilled and avid genealogist, having pursued this interest since her teenage years. Locally, she was a member of the Halpatiokee Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Martin County Genealogical Society; other national and state lineage and genealogical memberships included associate membership in the Pemaquid and Topsham/Brunswick DAR chapters in Maine, The Continental Society, Daughters of Indian Wars, The National Genealogical Society, The American Society of Genealogists, and genealogical societies of Florida, Connecticut, Maine and Ohio. Arlene was also an Amateur Radio Operator and member of the Martin County ARES/RACES group.

She was also predeceased by a brother, Michael E. Brown; a half-brother, Moses Brown; and a niece, Nicole Dupuis.

Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Karen Buchholz Godin (David) of Glastonbury, CT; her son, Robert E. Buchholz (Nancy) of Omaha, NE; her daughter, Trudy Buchholz of Stuart; five grandchildren, Andrew Aleman, Justin Buchholz, Christopher Jason Elam, Darryl Elam and Jessica Harris; two step-grandchildren, Katlyn and Elijah Godin; and two great-grandsons, Alex Elam and Gavin Lupacchino.

She is also survived by her sister, Colleen A. Kimball (William) of Stuart; brother, Stephen E. Brown of Colorado; half-sister, Nancy Brown of Florida; as well as many nieces and nephews.

No services are planned at this time. Interment will be private at a later date at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Wheeling, WV.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Russ Ackermann Memorial Scholarship Fund at Wheeling Jesuit University, 316 Washington Avenue, Wheeling, WV 26003.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Martin Funeral Home & Crematory, Stuart and Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory, Wheeling.
