David Moses Campbell was the son of Silas Simpson Campbell and Frances Wells. He was the grandson of John Eli Wells and Katherine Barbara Dowdy and the grandson of William C. Campbell and Temperance Mercer.

David was born in Houston County where his family was farming. About 1909 David married Bessie Christie, the daughter of Henry Lafayette Christie and Laura Alice Sullivan.

In 1910 David and Bessie were farming in Houston County. Their daughter Ora May was an infant. On neighborning farms were David's parents Silas and Frances Campbell, David's brother John Campbell, age 28, single, and brother James Campbell, 30, with his wife Matti and two sons Alvis and Alton.

When Davaid registered for the World War I draft, he was farming in Forest, in Cherokee County, Texas. He had a wife and three children.

In 1920 and 1930 David and Bessie were still farming in Cherokee County. Their family grew from 4 children in 1920 to 7 children in 1930.

Sometime before 1935 David relocated his family to Willacy County in the Valley, where he was still farming in 1940. The three older children were no longer in the household, but a young son Joe Alfred had been born in 1933.

David Campbell registered for the World War II draft about 1942. He was 55 years old, residing in Raymondville, Rexas. At the time of his death in 1954, David was 66 years old, living and farming in Harris County, Texas.

According to the census records for 1910, 1920, 1930 and 1940, David and Bessie had the following children:
