Of the eight children born to William Bell and Janet Whitson, Alison or Elsie, as she was more commonly called, was the only one of her siblings not to marry. She was also the last to die. Although she resided in Galt nearly all her life, she often traveled west by rail to visit her nieces and nephews and their children often referring to this extended family as the "Bell tribe". Her working years were spent as a domestic for the Dickson family at their Galt residence, " Kirkmichael". She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church.
