George Chapman Finch was the third born child, and first son born to George Raley Finch and Mary Gertrude Chapman Finch. He was named George after his father, and Chapman after his mothers maiden name. George grew up living first at 238,290 9th Avenue in St. Paul. (according to the 1880 census) and then moved to 245 Summit Avenue in St. Paul with his two sisters, Nellie and Helen and his younger brother William.

George filled out a draft card at 44 years old. It listed him as having Blue eyes, grayish hair, and being of medium height and a stout build. He listed his occupation as dry goods and his next of kin as his sister, Nellie. His draft card showed him still living at 245 Summit Avenue in St. Paul. His draft card also has checked that he has an obvious physical disability but does not tell what his disability is.

The 1940 census shows him at 66 years of age, living at 245 Summit Avenue with his sister, Nellie and two servants. The census indicates that the highest grade he completed was his fourth year of high school.
