Sometime between when George was 11 and when he was 31, the family moved to St. Paul, MN. (The 1850 census shows them in Delaware, Ohio and the 1870 census shows them in St. Paul, MN) In 1871, at the age of 31, he married Mary Gertrude Chapman. Four children would come from their union; Nellie T. Finch would be born in 1871, Helen G Finch would be born in 1872, George C. Finch would be born in 1875, and William V Finch would be born in 1876. According to cemetery records, George and Mary also had two stillborn children who are buried in the family plot with them. One being born in 1874,and one in 1878.
The 1880 Census shows George as 40 years old, working as a wholesale merchant and living on 9th Avenue in St. Paul.
George lived in St. Paul until his death on June 1, 1910. At the time of his death he was living at 245 Summit Avenue with his wife, Mary Chapman Finch. This house has now been earmarked as a historic house and on the Historic Summit Avenue Tour. George died from Arteriosclerosis. He was buried on June 3, 1910 in Oakland Cemetery in the family plot.
