Ada Rasnake Childress, age 95 of Ridge Road, passed away Saturday, December 7, 2013 at her residence. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, and I have kept the faith. 11 Timothy 4:7. Born in Buchanan County, she was a daughter of the late Thomas and Sarah Rasnake. She was a member of Duty View Primitive Baptist Church, was a retired cafeteria manager from Council Elementary, and the last surviving member of her generation. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Childress, two sons, Danny Childress and Jack Childress, 14 siblings, and a grandson, David Owens.

Survivors include her children, Tommy (Delpha) Childress of Abingdon, VA, Judy (Ira) Owens of Lebanon, VA, Jerry (Betty) Childress of San Antonio, TX, Faye Childress of Clinchco, VA and Jerlene Childress of Bee, VA, a special niece, Pearlie Ramsey, 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at Haysi Funeral Home with Elders Noah Edwards, Garnell Gilbert, and Jim Duty officiating. Burial will follow in the Thomas and Sarah Rasnake Cemetery, Bee, VA. Pallbearers will be Thomas, Mike, and Richard Childress, Greg Childress, Randy, Tim, and Brian Childress, Paul, Joe, and Jessee Childress, and Daniel and Mark Owens. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Ernest Henry, Chuck Farmer, Katie Miller, Megan Lester, Sandy Puckett, Dallas Crabtree, and Elders of Duty View Primitive Baptist Church. The family will receive friends after 5:30 p.m. on Monday, December 9 at the funeral home with Elders Buford Deel, Barrett McGlothlin, and Jim O'quinn. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Duty View Primitive Baptist Church. Online condolences may be sent to www.haysifuneral.com.
