STEWARTSTOWN Rhoda B. (Adams) Spicer, 94, formerly of Railroad, died Thursday, May 9, 2013, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Edwin J. "Sun Up" Spicer. A funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. Monday, May 13, 2013, from J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, with the Rev. Dr. Mark L. Hopkins officiating. There will be a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the mortuary. Interment will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, York. Born October 26, 1918, in Railroad, Rhoda was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Mamie Jane (Gantz) Adams. Rhoda was a member and former Sunday school teacher at New Freedom Baptist Church and was also a member of the Stewartstown Senior Center. She also taught for Child Evangelism of Southern York County. Rhoda was a former custodian for the Southern York County School District, and enjoyed crocheting and playing Scrabble. Rhoda is survived by two children, Edwin F. "Sunny" Spicer and his wife, Barbara of Glen Rock, and Carole A. Maddox and her husband, Thomas of Railroad; six grandchildren, Sue, Dawn, Ed, Ellen, Chris, and Audrey; 11 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Robert A. Spicer; one great-great-grandson, Bronson Keeny; five brothers; and two sisters. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Freedom Baptist Church, 222 N. Constitution Ave., New Freedom, PA 17349.
