Mamie E. Kruse, 105, of Grundy Center, formerly of Waterloo, died at Grundy County Memorial Hospital Long Term Care Wednesday, May 8, 2013.
She was born January 24, 1908 in a log cabin near Hackensack, Minnesota, the daughter of David and Anna Sawyer Brody.
Mamie married Frank Krug in 1928 and was later divorced. She married Harry H. Kruse on September 29, 1935 in Muscatine, Iowa. He died October 25, 1980. She was in the first class to graduate from West Waterloo High School in 1926. Mamie worked at the Fowler Co. (NASH Finch) before marriage. In Waterloo, Mrs. Kruse was a secretary for the United Way and various law offices. In 1956, she and her husband moved to Grundy Center where she was the Grundy County Deputy Assessor, retiring in 1973.
She was a member of Central Christian Church and the women's group in Waterloo and Grundy Center United Methodist Church. Also a member of Business & Professional Women, Elklettes and Waterloo Boat Club. She loved to play Bridge and Pepper and travel with the bank's New Prospective Club.
Mamie is survived by daughter Kay (Dean) Schultz of Grundy Center; son David (Dorothy) Krug Brody of Faribault, Minnesota; 6 grandchildren: Michelle Symonds, Kenyon (Robbyn) Brody, Patte (Jeff) St. Martin, Michael Brody, Tommy (Joan) Brody and Debra (Rich) Berends; 14 great-grandchildren: Cliff (Angie) Symonds, David Symonds, Leesa Symonds, Kristina (Nathan) Ramaker, Donnie (Mandy) Smith, Margaret Minnich, John (Shannon) Brody, Ryan (Andrea) Brody, Sara Brody, Lucas Brody, Dylan Brody, Cole Brody, Steven Berends, Alex Berends; and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, stepfather Arthur Erbb, husband, sister Nevada Ralston, brother Condon Brody and granddaughter Diane Schultz.
