He was born May 20, 1931, in Princeton, NJ, and grew up in Raleigh, NC. A graduate of Swarthmore College and the General Theological Seminary, he was ordained a priest in the Episcopal Church in 1956. He served as rector of the Church of the Redeemer, Asheville, as well as parishes in Indiana and Florida, before retiring to St. Augustine in 2007.
He is survived by his wife, Judith, and six children: Mary Theresa Langdon (John) of Indianapolis, IN; Lucia Noel Todd Mclaughlin (Michael) of Raleigh, NC; Jane Elizabeth Chamberlain (George) of Lookout Mountain, TN; John Milton Todd of South Bend, IN; Margaret Katharine Krantz (John) of Hanover, IN; and James Thomas Edsall (Robyn) of Banner Elk, NC; fourteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Always an Anglo-Catholic, he found upon retirement that the faith he loved and taught was more fully realized in the Roman Catholic Church, and he continued sharing that faith until the time of his death.
His funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, May 10, 2013, at 9:00 AM in St. Anastasia Catholic Church, the Very Rev. Timothy M. Lindenfelser and the Rev. Seamus O'Flynn officiating. Interment will be in the Cloisters of St. Anastasia.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Fr. Edsall's memory may be made to the St. Anastasia Catholic Church music ministry, or to Community Hospice of NE Florida.
St. Johns Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
